How2 Deal with Constipation

  • Drink lots of water. Instead of drinking room temperature water you can drink luke warm water (you can flavour with ginger, cumin seeds, mint leaves, cardamom).
  • Eat fibre rich diet. We recommend using fiber rich whole grains like brown rice (remember to soak in water and cook), rolled oats porridge, fruits and vegetables.
  • Drink these freshly made fruit/vegetable juices to increase your fibre as well as water intake. Clear juices are free from fiber and so drink all juices with the pulp. [ Papaya, Aloe Vera juice mixed with orange or carrot juice, Pear and Dates, Beet root and Apple, Carrot juice]
  • Eat Fermented Rice for more effective results. If you eat this for 10 days constipation will be relieved within few days.
  • Isabgol (also known as Psyllium husks) has been described as a gentle laxative, cooling and diuretic and so it is a great home remedy for constipation. It can be taken to supplement a fiber deficient diet. Mix a spoonful of Isabgol with a glass of water, fruit juice or milk and drink it immediately. You can do it up to three times a day depending on what you need.
  • Have castor oil once in three months to ensure that the entire digestive system is cleansed. The recommended dosage ½ to one teaspoon of pure warm oil for children above one year and one to two teaspoons for adults. This results in four to five purges.
  • Walk twice daily, in the morning and evening. Avoid being sedentary (more hours of sitting before computers or resting).

Deep breathing exercises like Pranayama yoga relaxes every now and then reduces stress in the body.

I read a fantastic article on Yahoo Women's Health on the topic of poos and want to share it with all.

It's very enlightening - a must read. I knew a bit about poos from Dr.Oz on TV, but this covers a lot more and in simple understandable vocab. I like the writer's style especially for such a stinky - er.. I mean sticky subject.
